REVEREND RICHARD L. SPEARMAN, Past PASTOR :     Greetings.  I have been the pastor of St. Helena Baptist Church for the past 11 years.  Prior  to coming here I was the pastor of Double Springs Baptist in Taylors, S. C. from 1980 -1988 and the  pastor of Cross Roads Baptist church in Easley, South Carolina from 1989-2003.

My wife, Nan, and I, have been in active ministry for over 50 years. We have three children and five grandsons and two granddaughters.  Nan has been a teacher at Broad River Elementary since moving to Beaufort.

I obtained a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1976, a B.A. degree from William Carey College in 1972, and an Associate of Arts degree from North Greenville Junior College in 1970.

Dear Friends,
This is definitely a bittersweet blog and I want everyone to know how important this blog has become to the church.  You as a church need to be sure and give Rod Hammack and Gray Tomlinson words of appreciation for all they have done to make this website successful.  Again, I am going to continue to pray for this church and especially the search committee.

As I have shared lately, the past twelve years have been the most rewarding and exciting years of our ministry.  You have loved and encouraged Nan and I and we will never forget all the blessings we have received during this time of service. We are looking forward to getting back to the Upstate, but we will for sure miss this beautiful area called the Low-Country.

Some of the highlights of our ministry here are:

  • Baptisms at the Beach
  • Easter Sunrise Services
  • Christmas Eve Candlelight Services
  • Sunday Night Bible studies.
  • The Choir Cantatas
  • Especially the Mission Trips
  • Our involvement in the Migrant Ministry in June.
  • We will always hold the Alaska Mission Trip as the best ever.
  • I have loved speaking out at Fripp Island and Nan loved having the Ladies Bible Studies on Dataw.  Nan will miss her Sunday School class and the children, Choir, etc.  Thank you Lord for giving us the honor and privilege to have served this great church making this the best in our ministry.

So, may God richly bless and may His wisdom be acknowledged.  We may not see each other but be assured we will see you on the other side.  PTL!!!

Your servant in love,

Rev. Richard L. Spearman

Dear Church Family and Friends,

We want to express our deepest appreciation for the gifts, cards, and expressions of love shown towards us during our last days of ministry. I am having the beautiful watch engraved at this present time. Your support and love over the past twelve years has been awesome. Thank you for the opportunity to serve and minister in Jesus name. Please continue to pray for us and our move back to the Upstate. May God richly bless you in the coming years.

In Christ Love,
Rev. Richard L. Spearman
